Pianist Simone Dinnerstein joins the Boulder Philharmonic on Saturday to perform a new piece by one of America's best-known living composers.
Dinnerstein will play Piano Concerto No. 3 by Philip Glass, a piece the composer wrote for her. The concert also features music by Johann Sebastian Bach, Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach and Arnold Schoenberg.
Hear the full CPR Classical in Concert Live broadcast from Macky Auditorium in Boulder at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 13, on CPR Classical. The full program:
- C.P.E. Bach: Symphony in C Major
- Schoenberg: Transfigured Night
- J.S. Bach: Keyboard Concerto in G minor
- Philip Glass: Piano Concerto No. 3
Saturday's concert will show the Boulder Phil in a unique setting. The four pieces on the program feature just the string section of the orchestra.
Dinnerstein premiered the Glass concerto in Boston a few months ago. The Boulder Philharmonic bills its upcoming performance as the regional premiere of the piece. Dinnerstein told Boulder's Daily Camera she always pairs the new Glass piece with Bach's Keyboard Concerto in G minor.
Dinnerstein has distinguished herself as a specialist in the music of J.S. Bach. Watch her perform his music in a 2014 CPR Performance Studio session:
