CSPD Plans To Release Body Camera Footage In Officer-Involved Shooting

The Colorado Springs Police Department is planning to release footage from body cameras worn by officers involved in a deadly shooting this past weekend pending the completion of an investigation into the incident, according to a joint statement with the city.

The shooting resulted in the death of 19-year-old Devon Bailey and sparked a demonstration earlier this week. Bailey was a suspect in a robbery, and police allege he reached for a gun. Video obtained by the Colorado Springs Gazette earlier this week shows the teen running from two officers before falling and slumping to the ground.

The joint statement says the body camera footage captures moments before, during and after the shooting. It comes one day after the El Paso County Sheriff's Office, which is investigating the incident, announced it expects to turn over findings to the District Attorney's office by the end of next week.

The District Attorney's Office will review the information from the Sheriff's Office and decide whether or not to bring charges or to possibly refer the matter to a Grand Jury for a determination.
