Evacuations have been called in Fort Carson due to a 1,067-acre fire. Residents within two miles of the 24 Fire have been told to evacuate immediately, with pre-evacuation orders in effect for an additional mile around the fire.

The Red Cross has set up an evacuation center for residents, pets and livestock at Pathfinder Park in Florence.

Fremont County Sheriff’s Office deputies are conducting door-by-door sweeps in the evacuation zone. They’re asking residents to leave a note on their door if they’ve already left.

The fire is not contained, with multiple state and local agencies responding. A Fort Carson official said that firefighters were well supported, but wind, low humidity and high temperatures were challenging efforts to fight the blaze.
