A long line is forming, with anywhere from several hundred to several thousand Coloradans. They’re all young illegal immigrants, hoping for a chance to stay and work here legally. President Obama announced a new program last month to make this possible for people whose family brought them when they were young.
One such person is Aminta Menjivar. She's 21 years-old and a University of Denver student. Aminta’s certain she’s eligible, as she says she fits the criteria. CPR's Zachary Barr meets with her, and then speaks with Laura Lichter, a Denver immigration attorney, and president of the American Immigration Lawyers Association. Lichter says undocumented immigrants may have trouble gathering the documentation necessary to prove the qualify. Moreover, she says applicants could be at risk if a new presidential administration decided to reverse the policy.
