Carl joined Colorado Public Radio in 2018. He brought with him nearly 30 years of experience in the broadcast news industry, all of which was spent covering news in Denver. Professional Background: Most recently, he was National Director of Content at the E.W. Scripps Company, where he helped manage the "Now" show for stations across the country. Carl has extensive experience in leadership roles for local newsrooms. He was formerly the acting news director and executive producer at KMGH, and was also the news director at KWGN. Awards: After 25 years of service dedicated to excellence, Carl was inducted into the Silver Circle of the NATAS Heartland Region in 2017. He also received four regional Emmy Awards for his work on special projects at KMGH, and was a part of the station's leadership when it won the Emmy for both news excellence and station excellence. Education: Bachelor’s degree in communications with a minor in marketing from Metropolitan State University of Denver

Carl Bilek

John Daley is a health reporter for CPR News. He has been with Colorado Public Radio since 2014 and is a proud graduate of Manual High School in Denver. Education: Bachelor's degree from Harvard University; Master's degree in journalism, Northwestern University. Professional background: John Daley joined Colorado Public Radio full time in 2014 after freelancing for both CPR and NPR throughout the previous year. In 2012, he moved to Denver from Salt Lake City where he spent more than a decade as a beat and investigative reporter. John has broad experience as a journalist, having worked in both television and radio at KSL in Salt Lake City where he’s covered a wide range of topics, including health care, politics, transportation, immigration and the Olympics. In addition to his work as a reporter, John has completed three journalism fellowships. He was chosen for the “Covering the Green Economy” fellowship at Arizona State University in 2010. He was a Western Enterprise Reporting Fellow at Stanford University’s Bill Lane Center for the American West in 2009, where he wrote an essay for the book, “How the West was Warmed: Responding to Climate Change in the Rockies.” In 2007-08, John studied climate change and the impact of global warming as a Knight Journalism Fellow, also at Stanford. Awards: Throughout his career, John has earned several distinctions and awards from various organizations. Among those, John won a Walter Cronkite Award for Excellence in Television Political Journalism from the University of Southern California in 2011. He was also honored with the Don Baker Award for Investigative Reporting from the Utah Society of Professional Journalists in 2011, several first place Capitol Beat Awards for in-depth reporting, and the Quintus C. Wilson Ethics Award for his coverage of the Utah legislature in 2009.

Andrea Dukakis is a producer/reporter/host for Colorado Matters on CPR News. She has produced and reported for CPR for nearly two decades. Prior to joining CPR, Andrea worked at NPR and ABC News. Education: Bachelor's degree in English, Princeton University; Master's degree in journalism, Columbia University. Professional background: Andrea Dukakisreports, produces and hosts stories for Colorado Public Radio and has been at CPR for nearly two decades.Prior to coming to Colorado, she spent three years at National Public Radio in Washington, D.C. Andrea has also worked at ABC News in New York. She's reported national stories for several NPR programs, including "Morning Edition," "All Things Considered," "Justice Talking" and "Living on Earth," as well as for BBC's "The World." Awards: Andrea has received awards from PRNDI (Public Radio News Directors Incorporated),Colorado Broadcasters Association, Associated Press and the Colorado Community Health Network. Q &amp; AWhy I became a journalist: I have always been fascinated by people and their unique experiences, and I love the news. So, it was a perfect fit. I grew up in a political family, and we always talked about issues and politics at the dinner table. But I never wanted to work in politics – I always preferred understanding issues from different perspectives. I think the most powerful stories are the ones told by those who are affected, whether it be health care reform, welfare, education, justice issues or the economy. And, I enjoy telling those stories. Why I got into radio: While I was in journalism school, I was offered the chance to help out at WBAI – a public radio station in New York City. I had written a story for school on Amerasian children who moved here from Vietnam after the war. The folks at WBAI let me turn it into a radio story – and I was hooked. I liked it better than print because radio adds a special texture to a story. And I preferred radio to television because I think people being interviewed are more honest when they talk into a microphone, rather than a camera. How I ended up at CPR: I was newly married, and my husband wanted to move to the mountains. At the time, I was at National Public Radio in Washington, D.C. We moved to Denver, and I began talking to people at Colorado Public Radio. It was really the only place I wanted to work – and the rest is history.
