Twenty-five years ago this month, TV viewers were introduced to a small, Colorado mountain town.

The offbeat, off-color, animated sitcom “South Park,” debuted Aug. 13, 1997, and Comedy Central is throwing a birthday bash to celebrate. The South Park 25th Anniversary Concert takes place at Red Rocks August 9 and 10.

South Park is the creation of Trey Parker and Matt Stone, who grew up in Conifer and Littleton, respectively. Their fictional town is thought to be based on Fairplay, in Park County. The show features too many Colorado references to count – Colfax Avenue, Cave of the Winds and of course, Casa Bonita restaurant.
