Denver veterinarian Aubrey Lavizzo noticed something that made his heart break: that veterans who fell on hard times often sacrificed their own well-being so they could take care of their pets. A dog or cat can help a veteran heal emotional wounds from serving, such as post-traumatic stress disorder, or PTSD.
That's why on Saturday from 9 a.m. to noon at the Volunteers of America Bill Daniels Veteran Service Center in Denver, Lavizzo will offer free services for current and former service members.

Lavizzo, who owns The Center for Animal Wellness in Denver, spoke with Colorado Matters host Ryan Warner.
