Chloé Dufresne is the new music director of the Colorado Springs Philharmonic.

French conductor Chloé Dufresne is making history as the first woman to lead the Colorado Springs Philharmonic. Dufresne has worked with orchestras around the world, but said programming a full season in Colorado Springs will be “fulfilling” and “allows my artistry to flourish.”

She’s inspired by the orchestra’s bold spirit of taking risks, and hopes audiences will feel that too.

“They should come back and have learned something, have been touched by something emotionally,” she said.

Dufresne opens her first season this fall and plans to begin with Stravinsky’s The Firebird — a piece she described as “gorgeous… colorful and joyful.”
