It’s been years since the renowned artist Christo began working to get permission for his “Over the River” project in Colorado. Christo wants to suspend miles of fabric over stretches of the Arkansas River between Salida and Canon City. The Bureau of Land Management is gathering public comments on the potential environmental impact for another two weeks. The agency will announce a decision early next year. Nearly 40 years ago Christo and his late wife, Jeanne-Claude did their first project in Colorado. In 1972, they hung a giant orange curtain across a valley in Rifle. Filmmakers Albert and David Maysles put together an Oscar-nominated documentary about it. Albert Maysles shares his perspective on Christo’s first Colorado project.
