When young kids commit serious crimes, prosecutors have an important decision to make. They must decide whether to keep the case in juvenile court, or try to move the case to adult court, where penalties are much stiffer. Recently, a Colorado district attorney faced that decision. In March, Bob Watson had to determine the fate of a 12-year-old from Burlington, Colorado. The boy killed his parents, Charles and Marilyn Long, and injured two of his siblings. Watson says prosecutors need more flexibility when trying juvenile cases.
