Congresswoman Diana DeGette wants the oil and gas industry to be a lot more forthcoming about how it does business. At issue is fracking fluid -- a mixture of often secret ingredients that drillers inject deep into wells to free up deposits. A couple months ago, DeGette-- who’s a Democrat from Denver-- learned operators sometimes put diesel fuel in their fracking fluid. Diesel contains benzene, which is known to cause cancer. And the fear is that it could get into drinking water. Now DeGette’s been able to see more of the ingredients. Tisha Schuller, president of the the Colorado Oil and Gas Associaton, responds. She says fracking is safe and already well regulated by the state. Schuller and DeGette speak to Ryan Warner.
