Dedication ceremonies were held this month for the first public charter school on an Indian reservation in Colorado. The school places Ute culture and language within the core curriculum. Dan Porter heads the Kwiyagat Community Academy. Betty Howe is a Ute Mountain Ute tribal member and elder who works at the academy, incorporating Ute language. Avery Lill spoke with them in September.
