There's a dead cat in the first line of the new book “East of Denver.” That sets the tone perfectly for what’s in store. In Gregory Hill’s new novel, a son leaves Denver for his hometown, Dorsey, to take care of his senile father. Dorsey is a bleak and fictional town on the Eastern plains--it hasn't changed much over the decades. Nor have the people who stayed. But there are some surprises in what happens when the main character moves back. "East of Denver" was published after winning last year's Breakthrough Novel Award in General Fiction. Ryan Warner talks with author Gregory Hill, who grew up on the plains.
