Sessions, who has been open about his negative views of legal marijuana, steered clear of the subject, including addressing the recent divergent views of President Trump has made recently about state's rights and marijuana legalization.

Sessions also didn't address some of the administration's more controversial policies surrounding immigration enforcement including separating families at the border and the large number of people showing up at the border seeking asylum from dangerous places in Latin America.

Sessions lamented sanctuary jurisdictions, but declined to call out any specific town or city -- in Colorado or elsewhere.

Sessions talked about his agency's crackdown on violent crime, mostly. He specifically mentioned a focus on MS 13, the international criminal gang with ties to Latin America.

He also talked about the opioid epidemic and how seriously his agency is taking the crisis. He noted the DOJ has prosecuted more than 6,500 opioid related crimes in the past year, that includes doctors who were overprescribing pills in certain communities.
