There's disagreement over whether the Gunnison sage grouse, found in southwestern Colorado, is disappearing. For six years, it was on the short list to become an endangered species. But in early 2006 the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service found the bird wasn't dying off as fast as it had thought. Conservationists and some state officials disagree. Now, San Miguel County is leading a suit against the federal government. Commissioner Art Goodtimes says research proves the grouse population is declining. Meanwhile, a new Colorado Division of Wildlife program aims to protect sage grouse habitat on private land. Ryan Warner talks to Goodtimes and Gary Skiba, a senior biologist with the Colorado Division of Wildlife.
