About 50 members from the 302nd Airlift Wing at Peterson Air Force Base are joining two other American crews in France for an airdrop Sunday in Normandy. The planned drop commemorates the historic allied invasion that happened on June 6th, 1944 during World War II.

Air Force Reserve Staff Sergeant Stephen Collier is among those in France. He says participation in the ceremony rotates between units, and the 302nd Airlift Wing was chosen this year. Collier calls it a once in a lifetime opportunity.

"We're really connecting with what it used to be," Collier says, "And...it's just a great opportunity to be able really walk in the shoes of those who have lived history."

Collier says the 302nd Airlift Wing and the other American crews from North Carolina and Ohio will parachute with partners from European countries including Belgium, France, and the UK.
