Colorado Springs is among the top 15 fastest-growing metropolitan areas in the country according to one newly released demographic projection. KRCC's Eliza Densmore reports.

The city is expected to grow by 6.2% and add more than 15,000 households over the next five years. But that’s still a slowdown. Tom Exter is the chief demographer for Pitney Bowes Software, the company that released the inaugural Metro Magnets Index.

"The reason its growing more slowly is obviously because we’re coming out of an economic recession, the housing downturn is struggling to get out of that, get out of the housing market crisis and so forth but the point is it’s growing and Colorado Springs will I think benefit from this growth over the next five years."

Exter says growth rates across the country are slowing. The numbers for Colorado Springs were included with projections for over 380 other metropolitan areas around the country. The areas with the highest expected growth rates are Provo, Utah, and the Austin and Killeen areas in Texas.
