The Colorado Lottery recorded its highest week of sales ever, thanks to the recent 550 million dollar Power Ball jackpot. KRCC’s Katherine-Claire O’Connor reports.

The state lottery more than doubled their average weekly sales, bringing in $22 million dollars. Lottery profits are divided up to benefit parks and recreation, wildlife and conservation projects throughout the state. Spokesman Matt Robbins says while the proceeds won’t be distributed until after December, some of the money is already being put to use.

“Like any business it’s in the bank, but we are also paying our bills with it. As we move forward, some of the marketing and other things that had to happen still have to be paid for it.”

Robbins also says a $2 million dollar prize has yet to be paid, and the retailer who sold the ticket will receive a commission. The new influx of money doesn’t necessarily mean more grants can be awarded but the grants cap amount could be re-evaluated. For KRCC news, I’m Katherine-Claire O’Connor.
