Winter Storm Hits Colorado

A winter storm is bringing some much-needed rain and snow to the Front Range and mountains.

As of 10 this morning, the National Weather Service reported more than five inches of precipitation in Beulah, with light snow still falling. Pueblo West saw about two and a half inches of snow, and in Colorado Springs, measurements range from one to three inches.

Dave Barjenbruch with the National Weather Service in Boulder says the storm is good news for Colorado’s snowpack. But he says it’s going to take more than one storm to restore levels to where they should be.

"As we head into the middle of next week, there’s a chance for more disturbed weather. What we need to do is keep getting these periodic storms and keep adding to that snowpack to really help that build through the spring months."

Pre-storm, Colorado’s snowpack was around 67% percent of average for this time of year. In the Arkansas River Basin, the pre-storm number was only about 52-56%.
