State senators took the unusual move of voting to take away a portion of state money from the Colorado Energy office for the rest of the fiscal year. As Bente Birkeland reports, the move follows a scathing audit, which showed the energy office mismanaged millions of dollars.
Democratic Congressman Jared Polis has introduced a bill in the House to end prohibition of marijuana at the federal level. The bill was introduced alongside another that if passed, would tax the drug nationally. Polis says recent votes in Colorado and Washington show the country is ready for the decimalization of marijuana.
“American’s have increasingly come to the conclusion that the drug war is a failed policy. While substance abuse is a real problem we need to address, we need to look at addressing it as increasingly as a public health issue more than a criminal issue.”
Polis says the bill will not affect states that currently outlaw the drug, but allow medical and recreational marijuana operations in states like Colorado where it’s legal to continue without fear of federal prosecution.
Pueblo’s City Council is considering a proposal that would allow Fort Carson’s HAMET program, or High Altitude Mountain Environment Training, to rent space at the Pueblo Memorial Airport.
