Body of Missing Colorado Springs Teen Found

The Colorado Springs Police Department is confirming the body of Rose Hammes was found just after midnight last night under a bridge in a canal on Platte Avenue, near Wooten Road.

Hammes, 17, went for a walk around 3:00 yesterday afternoon and sought shelter under a bridge near Maizeland and Academy as a heavy storm moved through.  Her parents contacted CSPD after being unable to reach Rose by phone.CSPD's Major Case Violent Crimes Unit, the Colorado Springs Fire Department and Search & Rescue conducted a search, and found a body at 12:16 am.  The El Paso Coronor's Office determined this morning that the body belonged to Rose Hammes, and ruled the cause of death as blunt force trauma and drowning.This is the second death in less than a week due to heavy rains. The first was Friday, when 53-year-old John Collins of Teller County died as a result of flooding on Highway 24.
