Warming Shelters in Colorado Springs, Black Forest

Update 12/05/13: The Red Cross Shelter in Black Forest has closed. Only one resident stayed on Dec. 3rd, and no residents on the 4th.

Original Post:

With extreme cold moving through the region, the Red Cross has opened a warming shelter in Black Forest as some residents there remain in various stages of recovery after this summer's devastating fire.  The First Baptist Church of Black Forest will be open from 4 pm to 8 am through Saturday morning. Pets are not allowed, but residents can find information there on pet sheltering at the Humane Society.

Warming shelters are also open in Colorado Springs.  Springs Rescue Mission (West Las Vegas) is open every night through mid-April for adults. On nights where the temperature drops below freezing and that location is full, a second shelter will open at the Salvation Army's Montgomery Shelter on Sierra Madre.  Lighthouse Mobile Ministries (S. Circle) is a secondary overflow location for men.

Nighttime temperatures in Colorado Springs are expected to be below zero for the next few nights.
