Greeley is banning the use of electronic cigarettes inside vapor shops.

After months of discussion, the city council voted 6-1 Tuesday to treat e-cigarettes like traditional cigarettes and include them in Greeley's current public smoking ban.

E-cigarettes are battery-operated devices that deliver nicotine and flavor through an inhaled vapor. The Greeley Tribune reports that the shops, Smokeless CG Vapors and Vapor Core, have offered spots for customers to use the devices or sample products. Both businesses have said that they need to allow customers to sample their products in order to survive.

Using e-cigarettes in any business will be punishable by a fine of up to $500.
