Smartphone App Looks to Connect Local Food to Consumers

· Feb. 17, 2015, 5:13 pm

A new smart phone app for the Pikes Peak region is looking to connect local food producers with consumers. KRCC’s Dana Cronin reports.

The app is called LocalFood and will allow users to find, purchase, or sell products that are grown or produced within a 67-mile radius of Colorado Springs.

Herman Combs is the owner of Vrello LLC, a mobile app developer involved with LocalFood. He says the primary targets are not only those who are aware of the local food movement, but hopefully also those who are looking to become involved. "And," Combs says, to "start learning about where their food comes from."

The plan is to have the app update information in real time.  It will include a rating system.

It’s scheduled for official release on Sunday.
