Grand Junction voters OK municipal broadband ballot measure

Grand Junction voters approved a ballot measure Tuesday that will allow the city to establish a broadband network, which would give residents and businesses more options for Internet service.

State law prevents cities from building their own broadband networks unless voters allow it. Seven Colorado cities have already passed similar measures.

Dallas Heltzell, a writer for BizWest media, spoke with Colorado Matters host Ryan Warner last week about what municipal broadband would mean for Grand Junction. Listen to their conversation here:

Voters approved Measure 2A 74 percent to 22 percent. They also defeated Measure 2B, which was an extensive roadway project in the city.
