Longmont Principal Who Prevented Valedictorian’s Speech Leaves School

· Jun. 23, 2015, 4:54 pm

The principal of Twin Peaks Charter Academy in Longmont will leave the school to become the assistant superintendent in the Fort Lupton School District, the Daily Camera reports.

BJ Buchmann made headlines last month when he decided not to allow Twin Peaks valedictorian Evan Young to give a graduation speech outing himself as gay. Buchmann also outed Young to his parents.

"We are saddened to see him leave and at the same time exceptionally proud of his accomplishments," said a statement from Twin Peaks about Buchmann.

An investigation into the speech matter is still ongoing, the paper reported Tuesday.
