Chihuahuas Are Crowding Front Range Animal Shelters

reports KMGH. And at least two other shelters, at least 15 percent of the dogs are Chihuahuas.

That's enough to crowd the low-kill shelters, and so a Fort Collins shelter is launching a "Cherish Your Chihuahua" campaign to try to get people to spay and neuter their dogs.

Meanwhile, the Dumb Friends League is trading some of its Chihuahuas to the western slope in exchange for bigger dogs.

Nationally, the breed has some of the highest shelter kill rates, according to the outlet.
