Reservation System Mulled For Conundrum, Four-Pass Loop

The U.S. Forest Service is considering a reservation system for overnight visitors to the heavily traveled Four-Pass Loop and Conundrum Creek areas near Aspen to prevent overcrowding.

Aspen-Sopris District Ranger Karen Schroyer tells The Aspen Daily News that feedback from two well-attended public meetings in April and July shows that residents are concerned with overcrowding, impacts to trailhead parking and conflicts between motorized and non-motorized travel in the area.

The Forest Service is now planning to study what it will take to limit overnight use in the two areas, including setting up a reservation system. The public feedback and data taken from visitation numbers will be used in a future management plan.
