Colorado Springs Officials Call For Pikes Peak Observatory

October 19, 2015

Colorado Springs' mayor and city council are calling for an observatory atop Pikes Peak, saying the U.S. Forest Service's ban on new uses does not apply as people have been using the mountain to stargaze since the 1800s.

The Gazette reports that scientists have being trying to build a telescope on the peak for 20 years, but most recently have been told the Forest Service won't allow a new use with the planned Summit House there.
