Motorists were allowed on the epic drive starting Saturday, although for the time being the park is closing the road at 8 p.m. because freezing overnight temperatures mean icy roads where snow has melted during the day.
Trail Ridge Road closed for the season on Oct. 29 last year. The effort to clear the road for the usual Memorial Day opening started in April. Last year the road opened on May 29. The earliest it’s ever opened for the season is May 7.
If you want to check on whether weather conditions have closed the road, call the park’s Trail Ridge Road phone line at (970) 586-1222. For other park information, check its website, or the general information phone line at (970) 586-1206.
