Full Containment Of Fire Near Parachute Expected Thursday

Firefighters hope to fully contain a wildfire burning along the border of Mesa and Garfield counties by the end of Thursday.

The Spring Creek 2 Fire southeast of Parachute initially forced the evacuation of about two dozen homes and has destroyed some outbuildings, trailers and vehicles. It's burned about a square mile since being started by lightning on Friday.

In northern Colorado, residents near an 80-acre wildfire in Larimer County have been warned to be ready to leave in case it grows. A single-engine air tanker based nearby dropped retardant on the Hertha Ridge Fire west of Berthoud (BERTH'-ihd) after it broke out Wednesday.

It's 55 percent contained.
