Chiles could make there way onto specialty license plates by 2018.

A bill for a new license plate featuring the Pueblo chile will get its day on the House floor.

The bill passed the Appropriations committee with an 8 – 5 vote.

Democratic Representative Daneya Esgar of Pueblo is the sponsor. She says New Mexico is considering a similar license plate promoting their Hatch chiles.

"We're trying to see what we can do to really make sure our plate goes effective first because we want to make sure Colorado's out there first with the chile plate," she said after the vote.

Esgar says the bill was amended to make the plates available in September of 2018 rather than January of that year for fiscal reasons.

She says the bill will likely be heard on the house floor next week.
