A bill that would create a license plate honoring the Pueblo chile is moving forward in the senate.

The bill passed the Senate Finance committee 4-1 with bipartisan support and now heads to Appropriations.

New Mexico has introduced a similar bill that would create a license plate promoting their Hatch chiles.

Colorado's bill is sponsored by Democratic Representative Daneya Esgar of Pueblo. She says the competition has been good for the Pueblo chile.

"You couldn't ask for a better way to really get the word out about the Pueblo Chiles than really the kind of attention the competition has garnered for this plate," Esgar says.

Esgar says she's been getting calls from businesses asking how they can find Pueblo Chiles.

She says the Senate Appropriations committee will likely vote on the bill some time next week.
