Bailey Case Heads To Grand Jury

A grand jury will decide whether two Colorado Springs police officers were justified in the August shooting of 19-year-old De'von Bailey.

The 4th Judicial District Attorney's Office announced in a Tweet Friday that the case will be referred to a grand jury, and offered no further comment.

The August incident resulted in the death of Bailey. Bailey's family has said prosecutors work too closely with law enforcement to be objective and have asked for an independent prosecutor

Governor Jared Polis has supported an independent inquiry, though Colorado Springs Mayor John Suthers, a former prosecutor and state attorney general, has said he supports the D.A.s office

The Gazette reports the last time a grand jury was convened locally for an officer-involved shooting was July of last year.
