Event Description

From September 23-26, 2021, the Santa Fe Trail will come alive as the 200th anniversary of the trail is commemorated in and around La Junta, Colorado! The theme of the event is 200 years of commerce and cultural connections. This Santa Fe Trail Association-sponsored event is being hosted by the National Park Service at Bent's Old Fort National Historic Site and by surrounding areas. For three and a half days, expect to see 55 living historians dressed in period clothing and living in the year of 1843. The event will include speakers, tours, and living history presentations and demonstrations.

To acknowledge the importance and impact of the Santa Fe Trail to the area, the National Park Service will waive all fees for the duration of the event.

For a more in-depth experience, visitors will want to register for the Santa Fe Trail Association lectures at Otero College, guided off-site trips, and after-hours events in the park. Registration for these special events must be received by the Santa Fe Trail Association by September 1.
