Event Description

The Pueblo Archaeological and Historical Society welcomes Victoria Miller, Museum Curator at the Steelworks Museum in Pueblo, for this FREE public Lecture Smoke, Steel and Fire: The Colorado Fuel and Iron Company.  The presentation will be Thursday, April 4 at 7:00 PM Pueblo Heritage Museum, 201 W. B. Street.

With roots dating to 1872, The Colorado Fuel and Iron Company (CF&I) in Pueblo served as the principal heavy industry leader in the Rocky Mountain region, producing steel rails, spikes, and track accessories for the burgeoning railroad industry. Over the next century the company grew to manufacture dozens of other products used in the agriculture, mining, commercial and residential industries. As the region's largest private employer, CF&I also played a significant role in the history of industrial medicine, labor relations and in the social lives of its employees.

Victoria Miller is a Pueblo native and earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in history from Colorado State University-Pueblo and a Master of Arts degree in museum science from Texas Tech University. Join us as she discusses many of these historical elements of the company that became known as the "Pioneer Steelmaker of the West."
