The Pueblo Archaeological and Historical Society invites you to this FREE public lecture! Joshua Broussard, Assistant Paleontologist, will speak about Fremont County’s colorful history of mining and mining communities. Find out Canon City’s mining history involving coal, brick clay, and hard rock mining for important metals like copper, gold, and uranium. Get a glimpse into the past of the Canon City coal field and the many mining towns that dotted the county, each with their own unique history. See where the oldest oil well in the western US was dug and how Canon City was connected to the atomic age.
Joshua is a paleontologist and geologist working in the Canon City area with the many important and historic fossil sites around Fremont County and the Front Range region.
