THE SHARK IS BROKEN by Ian Shaw & Joseph Nixon

Event Description
Just when you thought it was safe to go back in the theater, Springs Ensemble Theatre (SET) presents THE SHARK IS BROKEN, a critically-acclaimed behind-the-scenes comedy about the making of JAWS. Running August 28-September 14, 2025, this production arrives exactly 50 years after Jaws first terrified and thrilled audiences and offers a nostalgia-filled, intimate look at what really happened on deck of the infamous Orca.
Written by Ian Shaw (son of JAWS star Robert Shaw) and Joseph Nixon, THE SHARK IS BROKEN was an Olivier Award-nominated hit in London’s West End and played on Broadway in 2023. Springs Ensemble Theatre’s staging marks the play’s regional premiere, directed by SET member Tim Muldrew and featuring Steve Emily, Matt Radcliffe, and Colin Gregory as the feuding trio of actors. Audiences will join Robert Shaw (Quint), Roy Scheider (Chief Brody), and Richard Dreyfuss (Hooper) aboard a tiny fishing boat in 1974, as mechanical failures on the JAWS set leave them stranded at sea.
“The weather is hell, the shark is on the fritz, and the actors are trapped together battling egos, booze, and boredom,” says director Tim Muldrew, describing the play’s setup. “From that chaos, something legendary is born – and we get to watch it happen.”
