Air Check is a brand new show from KRCC highlighting great music from the Pikes Peak region and beyond.
If you’ve ever been to KRCC and seen the 20,000 CDs in our filing cabinets, and the 20,000 records in our vinyl vault, then you know that we are serious about music. Think of Air Check as a showcase for all the incredible music that lives at KRCC. We’ll introduce you to things you may have missed, take a closer look at genres and artists we think you’ll love, and invite local and touring musicians into the studio for exclusive interviews and in-studio performances.
On this, the debut episode of Air Check, we bring you an interview with hip-hop duo, The ReMINDers, an in-studio performance by blues artists Jesse Cotton Stone and Grant Sabin, and recommendations of some of our favorite new releases from the last few months.
PART ONE: A FEW OF OUR FAVORITE SONGS
This is the part of our show where we share some of the music that's been stuck in our heads the last few months. Here are the songs featured:
Shearwater - "Backchannels"
Baaba Maal - "Kalaajo"
Allan Kingdom - "Fables"
Rüfüs du Sol - "Brighter"
G. Love & Special Sauce - "Dis Song"
Millicent - "Say You Want Me"
PART TWO: IN-STUDIO WITH GRANT SABIN AND JESSE COTTON STONE
Grant Sabin and Jesse Cotton Stone have both been playing the blues in the Pikes Peak region since their teenage years. They've each released several albums, and have played on stages large and small around the country. In this in-studio interview and performance from an episode of The Blue Plate Special, Sabin and Cotton Stone talk about what they're working on, and play a couple tunes together.
PART THREE: THE REMINDERS
The ReMINDers are a hip-hop group out of Colorado Springs that have been making music for almost a decade. They’ve released two excellent records - Recollect and Born Champions - and performed with hip hop heavyweights like Snoop Dogg, Nas, Lauryn Hill, Mos Def, and many many others. In this segment, they speak with Vicky Gregor about their career, their musical influences, and what they're listening to these days.
We hope you enjoyed the first episode of Air Check. Stay tuned for new episodes at the end of every month on KRCC. If you are a Spotify user, check out this playlist of all the music you heard in this episode!
