A New Kind of Capitalism for Colorado Entrepreneurs

It’s Denver Startup Week -- and one session drawing a lot of interest is called “Doing Well by Doing Good.” It’s about running companies that pursue profit and social good. Of course, that idea’s been around for years…but it’s tricky to measure social responsibility.

Today, in our entrepreneurship series, we talk about the “B Corp.” It’s a certification for socially responsible businesses -- like “Fair Trade” for coffee. The nonprofit B Lab gave out its first BCorp certification in 2007, and since then more than 800 companies worldwide have earned it, including Patagonia, Ben & Jerry’s, and, in Colorado, New Belgium Brewing. Prototest is a Denver firm that tests mobile apps. And it recently went to great lengths to get certified. CPR’s Elaine Grant spoke with Founder and President Pete Dignan.
