Winter Park and Mount Evans do not make you think “city park.” Yet that’s just what they are. They belong to the City of Denver along with some of Colorado's other most beloved recreation spots. And you know that buffalo herd that you can spot off of I-70? Those belong to Denver, too. Denver Mountain Parks is an unusual system of 46 municipal parks and conservation areas located outside of city limits. A new book looks at the 100-year history of Denver Mountain Parks. Elaine Grant speaks with one of the book's authors, Bart Berger, who is also the founder of the Denver Mountain Park Foundation.
