Tony Ortega’s Art Blends His Mexican Heritage, American Identity

The visual artist grew up in northwest Denver and he likes to draw on his Mexican heritage and his American upbringing, sometimes contrasting the two cultures. Ortega, who is an associate professor of painting, design and drawing at Regis University in Denver, tells Colorado Matters that he tries to bring a sense of place, community and identity to everything he creates.
(Stephanie Wolf/CPR News) Ortega's work is featured in the Arvada Center for Arts and Humanities exhibition "Art & Conflict." The show runs Sept. 14 - Nov. 12. His art will also be on display at the Chicano Humanities and Arts Council in November.
