The Bureau of Land Management recently awarded a sizable lease to a corporation called Double Heart Lodge for geothermal development in the Gunnison area. If completed, a power plant on the parcel would be a significant source of renewable energy. But the leasing process has been closely scrutinized by some conservation groups. They’re concerned geothermal development could pose a threat to the rare Gunnison Sage Grouse, which is sliding toward extinction.
