Friends of Garden of the Gods has donated $20,000 to help keep water flowing freely through the park. KRCC’s Eliza Densmore reports.

The donation targets Camp Creek and will fund the final two steps of a project aimed at preventing flooding and debris backups. John Demmon is President of the Board of Directors of Friends of Garden of the Gods. Demmon says after the Waldo Canyon Fire, the need for cleanup was obvious.

It became clear that Camp Creek needed some clearing and mitigation to help water flow through the Garden of the Gods and through Rock Ledge ranch to be sure that that water flowed smoothly and didn’t well up and take out for example the bridge at Gateway road that goes into the Garden of the Gods.

The project includes three phases: the cleanup of stormwater debris, the removal of invasive species, and the prevention of their return. Work is expected to start in November.
