Election Day is still several days away, but thousands of southern Colorado voters have already cast their ballots. As KRCC’s Liz Ruskin reports, officials in El Paso and Pueblo Counties say early voting has gone smoothly so far.
In El Paso County, about 140,000 people have voted so far, with Republicans outnumbering Democrats 2 to 1. Alissa Vander Veen with the county clerk’s office says most of the ballots have come by mail, with far fewer choosing to vote early in person.
"But we do expect today and tomorrow to be pretty busy days for early voting as everyone realizes the deadline is here and they’ll rush out to cast those early votes."
Pueblo County Clerk Gilbert Ortiz says he’s received more than 33,000 ballots so far, either by mail or at early voting locations. About half are from Democrats, he says, while a quarter are from Republicans.
Early in-person voting ends tomorrow. Mail-in ballots are accepted until polls close on Nov. 6.
