A memorial service is scheduled tomorrow for the first African American graduate of the Air Force Academy. KRCC’s Hannah Sohl has more.
Captain Charles Vernon Bush graduated from the academy in 1963. After serving as an intelligence officer in Vietnam, Bush returned to the states eventually earning a finance degree from Harvard school of business. Bush was also a Academy Falcon Foundation Trustee. Sergeant Vann Miller is a spokesman for the Air Force Academy.
"If I could say anything, like I said his life is an example of other cadets to follow, if we can use his accomplishments as an example, I would say once we do get beyond race and can see people for what they are capable of, there are absolutely no limits, if we can imagine it we can achieve it."
Captain Bush passed at his home in Montana in November. The memorial service is open to the public, and will be held at Air Force Academy’s Memorial pavilion at 3:00.
