Governor John Hickenlooper and corrections officials from around the country mourned slain DOC director Tom Clements at a memorial service in Colorado Springs this morning. KRCC’s Liz Ruskin has this report.
Former inmate Chuck Limbrick sang at the service. Clements knew him from church and had cheered his rehabilitation. Lisa Clements says her husband devoted his career to his belief in redemption and in the ability of inmates to change.
"Our family prays for the family of the man who took Tom’s life, for God’s mercy in their life and for a way for them to find peace."
The man suspected of killing Clements was paroled from prison in January. Evan Ebel died in a Texas shootout Thursday. The El Paso County Sheriffs office has announced that ballistics evidence indicates the gun Ebel fired in Texas is the same one used to kill Clements.
