CPR Classical features patriotic favorites for Fourth of July

At 4 p.m., we’ll broadcast the Aspen Music Festival’s Fourth of July concert live as part of our SummerFest broadcast series. The program includes music by John Philip Sousa, Irving Berlin and others. 

We’ll also spread recordings of American composers’ masterworks throughout the day Friday. Highlights include:

  • 9 a.m.: George Gershwin: "Porgy and Bess (A Symphonic Poem)"
  • 11 a.m.: Roy Harris: Symphony No. 3
  • 7 p.m.: Howard Hanson: Symphony No. 2, "Romantic"
  • 8 p.m.: Aaron Copland: "Appalachian Spring"

Listen at other times to hear music by Leonard Bernstein, John Williams, Charles Ives, Duke Ellington, John Cage, Meredith Monk, Scott Joplin, Philip Glass, Samuel Barber, Jennifer Higdon and more.
