Big market for organic grains in tiny Weld County community

Hereford is a community so small that's it's not even incorporated, reports the Greeley Tribune. Nor is it on maps of Weld County. But it's home to some very important organic grain silos.

Rebecca Talmadge, co-owner of S T Organics told the paper that growers producing organic grains were struggling to find storage and struggling to get certified. Now S T Organics provides storage and consultations on how to become organic certified.

“The ones that didn’t have storage options, they basically didn’t certify organic, even though they were farming organically anyway. They just didn’t do the paperwork and sold it on the conventional market,” Talmadge said. “So they were losing financially because of the differences in the commodity prices.”
