Conservative group bars GOP gay organization from Denver event

Organizers of a conservative conference in Denver this summer are telling a gay Republican group it cannot have a booth at the gathering.

The Western Conservative Summit is scheduled for late June in Denver. Republican presidential hopefuls Scott Walker, Rick Santorum and Mike Huckabee are among those expected to address thousands of conservative activists.

The gathering is organized by The Centennial Institute, a thinktank connected with Colorado Christian University. It told the Log Cabin Republicans they could not have a booth at the gathering and refunded the $250 registration fee the gay conservative group submitted.

John Andrews of the Institute said gay Republicans are welcome to attend individually but that the Log Cabin Republicans' priorities directly conflict with those of Colorado Christian University.
